Rau O Te Huia Community Trust is a charitable trust providing housing and support on a Kaupapa Maori basis.

Te Whare Tapa Wha

Rau O Te Huia embraces Te Whare Tapa Wha model by Sir Mason Durie: It represents the four cornerstones/dimensions/sides of a (house).

  • Taha Hinengaro (mental/emotional): Capacity to communicate, to think and to feel.
  • Taha Tinana (physical): Capacity for physical growth and development.
  • Taha Wairua (spiritual): Capacity for faith and wider communication related to Te Ao Wairua.
  • Taha Whanau (family/social): Capacity to belong, care and share where individuals are part of wider social systems (relationships).

Contract

Rau O Te Huia is contracted by Mana Tu Hauora (MOH), Te Aka Whai Ora (Maori Health Authority) and Hauora A Toi Bay of Plenty to deliver Housing and Recovery Services (Day Time/Responsive Night Support) for Adult Lived Experience Kaupapa Maori Mental Health and Addictions Services in a Kaupapa/Tikanga Maori environment.
